Writable folder left my files in Limbo!

I tried searching for this problem with no luck, so I
apologize if it is a repeat.

I am in the process of backing up data and reinstalling
Windows XP to create a fresh slate for my next year in
college.

I was moving my video archive into the writable folder to
burn onto CD. At the very end it said "Windows
encountered a problem while moving My Movies." The files,
although copied, do not show up in the writable folder,
and have disappeared from my hard drive! I know the data
exists, but I can't find it anywhere. I tried a system
restore, but that didn't work.

Does anybody have a clue as to how I can access those
temporary files Windows' writable folders use, or any
other ideas as to how I can recover my data. It's a
collection (no illegally downloaded material) that is
quite extensive and losing it would be quite a bummer.

I appreciate any help, and let this be a lesson to myself
and others to always COPY files into writable folders,
not move.

Andrew someone else ran into this same issue and posted about it today.
Unfortunately it seems they also lost their files. STOP using your
system now. To optimize chances of data recovery don't use the system
until you try some options. Here are some links to data recovery
utilities. Download them from a different computer and try them out to
see if any can recover your data:
