Steve,

You have helped me a few times already on different computers I have worked
on. Each time your solution was a bull's eye. I have a computer in right
now that I just can't fix. I've done all I know to do and my customer is
expecting me to get it resolved.

The machine was heavily infested with spyware/adware but is completely clean
now. Unfortuantely I cannot get a network connection. I can't ping by IP
or name to the router nor other clients. I ran WinsockFix.exe which has
proved succesful in many cases but not this one. I checked the two keys you
regularly post in the Netbt\Parameters folder as I recall. The keys aren't
there. I did as suggested in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q244268 disabling
APIPA. It still doesn't work.

I have included a copy of the log from ipconfig /all below. Thanks for any
help you might provide.

You are not even getting an IP Address, have you checked
your NIC card in device manager? Is it enabled? Have you
tried to release and renew the address? check your cable
connection swap cables. Check for driver updates with
3Com. Swap NIC's.

After a severe virus/malware infection removal, I always have our
techs run a little utility called 'winsockfix'. It repairs the
networking files and functions destroyed by some baddies.

Do a Google search to find it. Include it on your Utilities CD.

Good luck!

Hi!

Thanks for posting here!

I understand that you're not able to ping any computer on the network. If I
misunderstood your concern, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I agree with Steve. Based on your IPConfig information, the computer has
not obtained any valid IP address yet.

Will you please try to assign a static IP address to narrow down the root
cause of the issue?
To do so:
In Network Connections ¨C
1. Right-click the network connection and click Properties
2. Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
3. Manually assign a valid IP address/Subnet Mask/Default Gateway/DNS
Server address
4. Click OK twice and check the issue again.

I hope the above info helps.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to post back!

Have a great week!
