I"m running Norton Antivirus 2003 and it detected an
infected email posted to my Outlook Express. I have not
opened the email or attachment. How do I delete this
email without opening it, as to prevent from becomeing
infected with the worm it contains? In order to delete it
I must click on it. Is it only if I open the attached
file that it then releases the worm? If I delete it and
then delete it from the Deleted Files in Outlook Express
is it completely gone or mdo I have to do something else
to insure that the worm is compltly removed from my
computer?
Thank You Very Much For Your Response!!

If NAV is working normally, it will have already quarantined the infected
portion of the message and left nothing in the original except a short
sentence stating that the message had been infected and that it had been
cleaned. Look in NAV's logs and you should find something similar to:

Source: P315671.zl9
Description: The email attachment P315671.zl9 is infected with the
W32.Gibe.B@mm virus.
Click for more information about this virus : W32.Gibe.B@mm

corresponding to the email you are worried about. At least a quick read of
the NAV manual would be a good idea too, if for nothing else except to allow
you to make sure that you have selected the correct options for maximum
protection.
