Greg

I got this in an email yesterday labeled "Microsoft Update
29" . I was in a hurry and did not think...and zap! Well
the worm has done it's job on all AntiVirus software
installed...Internet Security 2003, by Symantec. As
Microsoft warns, "DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY EMAIL YOU DO NOT
RECOGNIZE!"

Now, can anyone help me get rid of this worm?? Symantec
wants big bucks plus no 1-800 #... (even for a problem
their software was suppose to guard against?!?) I am at a
loss, what do I do?? Microsoft wants $245.....??? The
computer does not execute any programs...I can power
off..and restart, but it won't do startup programs, except
for lan connectors. Everything else seems to be sewed
up...IOW when I click on a program, it comes back
with "windows cannot execute...humma, humma..."

Thanks,
Greg

Microsoft never sends unsolicited files by email.
DO NOT open the file--it is NOT from MS.
REPEAT:Microsoft NEVER sends unsolicited files by email.

It is a virus masquerading as MS security.
The most recent is W32/Swen@MM which can be removed with Stinger

Sorry Greg, you deserve what you got. Harsh but true.

There really is no excuse for; "I was in a hurry and did not think..."

It's people like yourself that don't think which will defeat every
known virus defence and make computers so locked down by hardware that
in the end one might own the computer, but will NEVER be able to run
their own software because the hardware will NEVER allow the use of
uncertified software. And why will be vetting and certifying
software?

Hmmmm.....

Aloha Larry!

Well, I didn't have to use stinger... I had already
downloaded a fix called SwenTool from <ftp.europe.f-
secure.com/anti-virus/tools/swentool> and it cleaned and
killed the worm. You might want to check it out, as you
are definitely into helping people, as some <the bloke at
pinnine puddle> are NOT.

Thanks again,
Greg
