Reading old posts I came across a posting advising that a prolonged start-up
time might be due to the "workstation" box in the services section of
msconfig being checked. So I unchecked it on a trial basis. I'm stonished as
it cut the start-up time drastically, and so far I cannot see that I have
lost anything. But since workstation must be there for a reason, I would
appreciate someone telling me why. Thanks.

It didn't take long to find out it facilitates the network file interchange
etc. When I don't need to use my laptop in conjucntion with my desktop, it's
no problem, but I think I'll restore the service......

This link may help you.
