I have worksheets with a lot of figures on them and after I fill one side of
the sheet,(A to H) I go to the top of the worksheet and fill the other side
of the worksheet (J to Q) and continue on doing the same thing . Lately I
have been having problems saving them to floppies. Is it better to just
continue down on the sheet just filling in columns A-H?

When I go to save new data I get the message "disk is full" or
"write-protected". Neither is true. It also takes ages to open the files.

I have Windows 98, and Office 97.

Hi!

Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to work from
floppies. You should work with your files from your hard
disk. If you want to use the floppies as backups the best
method to use is to copy the file from the floppy to the
hard drive. Do the work needed on the file and save the
file on the hard drive then copy the file to the floppy.
Might seem like a PITA but you're experiencing the
problems of working from floppies!!!!!!

The reason you get a "disk is full" message is due to the
method that Excel uses to save a file. When you save a
file, Excel creates a temporary file then deletes the
original then renames the temp to the original file name.
So, basically what this means is that you need enough disk
space on the floppy to hold 2 copies of your file.
