I using Office 2000 (and hence Excel 2000).
After a recent "update" prompted by Outlook, the Excel's in-built "YearFrac"
is no longer working - I get an error in my worksheets in which I have used
this function.

How can I get it back. In which library does this function reside?

Yearfrac is a Function from the Analysis Toolpak.

Tools>Add-ins. Check Analysis Toolpak.

Basharat,

You need to install and use the Analysis ToolPak (copied from XL help
below).

To install the Analysis ToolPak
On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
If Analysis ToolPak is not listed in the Add-Ins dialog box, click Browse
and locate the drive, folder name, and file name for the Analysis ToolPak
add-in, Analys32.xll - usually located in the Microsoft
Office\Office\Library\Analysis folder - or run the Setup program if it isn't
installed.

Select the Analysis ToolPak check box.

Hope that helps.

Kevin

1. When I started the Excel (after shutting it down), I got the message:
Can't find the file C:\Program Files\....\FUNCRES.XLA.

How do I add this file by itself to the appropriate directory and where do I
find it on my Office software CDs) or do I have to Add-In the Tool Pak?

2. When in Excel, I do see the YearFRac listed in the available functions
(Insert, Function..). So I can't understand why my formulas with YearFrac
are not working?

Basharat.

The Analysis Tool Pak is already checked and added-in. As I said, the
function YearFrac was working for many years until yesterday!?

Basharat,

1) Funcres.xla....on my PC it is located
....microsoft\office\library\analysis

I am not sure why your is missing. I think you are best to try Help |
Detect and Repair. Or even reinstall Excel.

2) It is odd that you can "see" Yearfrac, yet it is not working for you.

I am not sure what to suggest here Basharat. I might try Help | Detect and
Repair. If that didn't work for me, I would try reinstalling Excel.

I hope someone else jumps in and provides some thoughts.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin.

I just copied the file from another of my computers to the computer with the
problem. And YearFrac is working ok now.
I don't know how & where FUNCRES.XLA disappeared. I will check the Recycle
bin and see if it ended up there.

This week I have had a lot of computer problems. One morning, my network
went berserk - from one of the 4 computers I could not print to the network
printer and I could not access the Shared folders & drives on any of the
computers. By the afternoon, everything started working fine. Then came
the Excel FUNCRES.XLA. Today, the scroll button on the mouse started
scrolling horizontally instead vertically! After a couple of hours, it
started functioning ok.

I think it must be the Solar Storm causing all this havoc :).

Thanks All.

Basharat,

I am very glad you got your computer problems resolved.

I don't think I have experienced something like that where files suddenly
and mysteriously dissappear. If you haven't already, please be sure to do a
thorough virus scan. While I doubt that is the cause, it is better to be
safe than sorry.

Again, and I am glad you solved your computer problems and thank you for
coming back and letting us know.

Best regards,
Kevin
