Have you purchased and installed Works on the new computer?

Neither Microsoft Works, nor any of its individual component
applications, have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating system.
They are, and always have been, separate applications, that must be
purchased and installed separately.

You don't need Excel , you need Microsoft works.
If your Works 2000 won't open those files then those files are probably bad.
Try opening them on another computer that has Works installed on it.
P.S.
Santa, have one of your elves warm up your sleigh and you try not to give
bad (or misleading advice)
