Works error message, there is not enough memory to open this file

Have an emachine with 512 ram, 40 gig hd and microsoft works. jus
recently, when opening doc files in email and some already on th
computer am receiving an error message, "there is not enough memory t
open the file xxxxxx.doc. Please close all etc. and try again." Doe
not work and computer out of warrenty and microsoft is no help. I kno
there was an earlier thread on this but could not read any responses.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Delete the file normal.dot and it will be recreated upon restart. It's
most likely corrupted.

Searched hard drive could only find 10KB file called normal.bin in
program files\microsoftworks. Is this it, or am I missing a file.

That's a Word file.. I misread your post. But here are some other ideas:

- Works WP won't open many Word documents that have imberred objects.
You might try the free OpenOffice.org Office Suite, which can handle
Word documents..

- This MSKB search has a few Works articles with that error message:
