Have new system, vista preinstalled, works 8.5 preinstalled, didn't update
works.Tried to use spreadsheet when I tried to format a cell works stopped
working.Any help would be great.

Not yet, seems I spend more time in variuos discussion groups and on phone to
tech support than actual work. I was even told by one tech support person if
I plan on installing any new software to ring tech support. Funny I didn't
have to do that with XP Second Edition. Maybe it's easier to go back to my
old system.

Did you ever get a correct answer on this I have exactly the same problem.
Driving me potty.

Didn't get any response yet. I guess we'll have to wait until they come out
with a new spreadsheet program and charge us a arm and a leg then offer
another patch or something. I think they should fix it before they release
it. I'll probably go back to my old system with Xp for spreadsheets. If you
hear anything new let me know.

There's a fix for this.

Hi Ann

Can you explain in more detail. What do you mean by "didn't update
works"? What formatting were you trying to do when Works stopped working?
Have you contacted HP or Dell or whoever sold you the system? They are
responsible for the software that is preloaded, not MS.

I ask because I have Works 8.5 preinstalled on my Compaq Laptop with Home
Premium and the spreadsheet appears to work OK. I've only used Works a few
times as I prefer Excel, but I formatted a few cells just now without any
freezing or other problems.

Bill
