I have inherited a ton of files created in Works (not
sure what version they were made in) and had purchased
office xp (word) to view them - with no luck. So I
bought a copy of works just to get access to them. Then
I bought a laptop from dell with works on it, but this
version is works with word, and it cannot open the works
files. Is there a converter out there for getting from
works to word? If not can I batch save these (hundred or
so) files to an acceptable format that word will open?

If you do a search of Drive C: for "Works WordProcessor", you should find
it, copy it to your desktop, and open your works files with it. Its there
though. Microsoft Word also supports opening Works 4, 6 and 7 files. Go to
File > Open > (in the "Files of Type", pop down menu, select either Works 4,
6, 7.0 format to open the particular file.

Thanks, don't have the laptop or home computer here, but
I tried opening the files with Word 2002 and the options
are for works 4.0 and works 2000 and on both word wants
to do text conversion... - so what you are saying is
works with word should have the works word processor
available - somewhere?

No, if you got Works Suite, then Word *is* the word processor. The Works
Word Processor will not be available.

Hmmm. I think you'll find that the Works WP is installed, but simply not
apparent. Look for Wkswp.exe in the Works folder and run a shortcut to it.

Not if it's Works Suite. Works Suite does not include the Works Word
Processor!
