I know this doesn't really belong here, but I didn't know where else to
ask...

I am working in the US for 3 months (I'm from the UK) and wondered if my PC
will work out there? If I get a US power cable, does the power supply in the
PC automatically detect the difference in voltage?

Thanks for any advice.

Depends on the machine. Most have a small slide switch on the back of the
power supply to change the voltage to 115V or 230V. If no slide switch, you
have a one voltage power supply.

"If no slide switch, you have a one voltage power supply." -- Not
necessarily - some power supplies will autosense the voltage and adjust
themselves.

OP needs to look on the back of the PC/power supply, or check with the
manufacturer. Of course, plugging a 220/240V machine from the UK into US
120V won't hurt the PC, as it might going the other direction<G>

Finding a 120 to 220 transformer will be a problem - again, the bigger
market is for US people using appliances in Europe.
