workgroup dots organized in sub-directories does (partially) notwork correct.

Scenario:
We work in a network where all workgroup dots are on a fileserver
f:\templates.
Inside templates we have subdirectories for different types of dots, so
that the users have different tabs in their create-new dialog. Works
fine. For example f:\templates\manuals\sec.dot

Problem:
We often get documents from external suppliers. Their documents contains
the wrong path to "sec.dot". And, because our workgroup definition (in
Options) points to f:\templates but NOT to f:\templates\manuals the dot
in this document will never be found by the search algorithm for dots.

Does anyone of you know the problem? Do we use the workgroup option
wrong? All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Pia

All you really have to do is open the document, click "Tools", "Templates
and add-ins", click the "Attach" button and browse to the correct folder,
select the correct "sec.dot" file, then click "OK". The link is now fixed
for that document. You will need to re-do this for every document you
receive from this outside source (unless you get them to arrange their
folder structure the same as you have).

If you are interested in using a different method to access your template
files, you might want to check out my Document Management System webpage
tutorial. It even has a sample download file you can use to modify for your
workgroup templates. Basically there is a template that resides in your
"F:\templates" folder that will be opened each time a user opens Word (set
up in the "Startup" option). It contains a toolbar with a button that opens
a UserForm. You click the TAB of your "subfolders", select a form to use,
click a button, and it opens a new document based on that template.

Let me know what you think. The link is:

Thanks, Bill, for your immediate answer,
the problem is that we get a bunch of documents from outside (about 100
each time) every time and its not very practicable to do the attach for
every document. And we get that documents every month or so.

Will have a look at your link, and will give you a feedback.
Regards,
Pia
