hi,

well, to start. i have 2 win xp pro computers in a workgroup. till
recently it was working fine and i could see both computer (shared files)
from each other. but after some patches update online which windows
automatically picks up, there seems to be a problem. i can see each other but
when browsing via "view workgroup computers"as it display an error

"\\computer is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this
network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions."

as such when seen through explorer by directly typing the ip addres like
\\192.168.0.12, it works but not always.

now as am not having any guest or other accounts, only administrator is
being worked upon, there should not be any problem in security issues. so
where can i begin to start the diagonisis... any help out.

have you enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP on both computers?

Regs,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
