Okay this issue is driving me mad. Ultimatly I just want to get my printer
shared.

I have 2 PCs on my network. One PC (running WinXP Pro sp2) is connected
using a Microsoft Router MN-100 and the 2nd PC (also running WinXP Pro sp2)
is in another part of the house and connected to a Netgear Fast Ethernet
Switch (FS605 v2). The hub and the router are connected via an ether net
cable. Both computers can connect to the internet and the first PC can print
to the printer. The both PCs have been set up using the Network connection
wizard so connect to a routher to share an internet connection. Both have
been set to the MSHOME workgroup and both have been set up for file and
printer sharing.

The problem occurs when I go into my network places and click on the task to
view the workgroup. The network browers stops responding and may or may not
display an error message (a couple of mins. later) about not haveing
permission. Every time i make a change to troubleshoot this problem i have
had no success and when i try to browse for a printer on the network nothing
comes up and the browser for the network printer won't show the other PC on
the network.

I've tried running the wizard again and trying a different workgroup name
(same name for both computers).

The Microsoft Broadband utility shows the other PC on the network and even
under the LAN information both PCs are assigned IP addresses.

Not sure what to do now.

Help?!?!?!?!

Thanks for anything you guys come up with.

What specifically do you see when "The network browers stops responding"?

To start, let's take a look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" on both
computers.

As you can see from reading this news group, network browsing
problems like this are quite common and can be hard to fix.

I recommend not using My Network Places at all. On each computer,
create a desktop shortcut to the other computer:

1. Right-click a blank place on the desktop.

2. Click New | Shortcut.

3. For the location of the item, type the other computer's name, in
this format: \\computer

4. Click Next.

5. Click Finish.

From then on, access the other computer by clicking its desktop
shortcut.

Okay what information are you looking for in the ipconfig /all?

What i'm doing is going into my network places (under start menu) Next I'm
going going into the task "View Workgroup Computer" this is when the browser
stops responding. It just shows a white blank page. Nothing happens then in a
short bit in the title bar i'll see the words "Not Responding" as usual when
a program stops responding.

So what's next?

Slow response can be caused by several problems. Two that I know of are
excessive protocols, and name resolution settings. The "ipconfig /all" logs
will show us all TCP/IP settings, and "browstat status" will show us all
protocols.

How do I log the ipconfig to a txt file so i can cut and past all the info
you need.

What info do you need from ipconfig. I don't want to just start posting some
ipadresses if they can be used to hack into my computer system.
