I have composed my resume in the WordPerfect 10 program
that came with my Dell computer. When I send it as an
attachment to my e-mail the recipients cannot open it.
What can I do to change this?

If they don't have WordPerfect on the computer, (many don't) you need to use
a more widely used program, normally Microsoft Word. That's usually the
"standard" for submitting resumes and other documents.

Open WP, open the file, use "save as" command and save it as
a WORD .doc or better still, as Rich Text .rtf which can be
opened by almost any word processor.

One solution might be to save it from Corel , in Word format, instead of
Wprd perfect fornat.

Copy the resume to a blank document. Under File>Publish to>PDF>Then Save it.

They will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to see it, but they should have it.

For someone to open a file you send them, they need either the
program used to create it, or one which is compatible with the
file format you saved it in.

Unfortunately WordPerfect is no longer a very popular program,
and you've apparently sent .wpd files (WordPerfect documents) to
people who don't have WordPerfect installed.

Fortunately, however, WordPerfect has the capability of saving
files in formats that can be read by Microsoft Word (the word
processing program that most of your recipients probably have).
To save a file in such a format, instead of clicking on "Save,"
click on "Save As," and in file type, choose either a Word .doc
file or an .rtf file. It's very likely that your recipients can
open and read either of these.

Stop using WordPerfect's file format. Have it save in a format your
recipient can read. Others have suggested to save in Word .doc format.
Okay, but that assumes they also have Word or Office installed to see
ALL of the document will any and all robust features available. I'm not
sure Wordpad, included in Windows, supports every feature of Word to
accurately present your resume to the recipient. Also, that won't help
if your recipient is using a Mac or Unix system. Another suggestion was
to use PDF since that is more universal than Word .doc or Microsoft's
proprietary RTF (Rich-Text Format). However, that still requires the
recipient to already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed or have them
download and install it before they can look at your resume. About the
only file format that I can think that is more universal than all of
these is HTML. Can WordPerfect save in HTML format? If so, does it
create an accurate HTML-coded document that renders exactly the same as
your resume appears inside WordPerfect? Word can also export a document
in HTML format but sometimes the HTML document isn't exactly what you
had with Word.

I strongly urge you to find out what program was being used when you are
advised that they cannot open it. If that info is available you can make
a good decision.

Many folks here have said to use Word format. MS Word can easily import
WordPerfect documents so that argument is not valid.

Most PC's have Acrobat Reader, so the option to send it in pdf format,
in my opinion is the best choice.

Greetings --

Do you recipients have WordPerfect or another compatible
application installed?
