Wordpad crashed and can't open - Can I get a new copy?

That pretty much says it all. I accidentally dragged an
image file onto my Wordpad document, and it crashed the
program. Now the program won't open, it just shows an
error. I hope my document isn't corrupted, but anyway, I
tried opening the application itself by double clicking
the exe, but it still just crashes itself as soon as I do
that.

(When I send an error report it doesn't tell me a
solution, it just sends the report)

Wordpad is a pretty simple thing, I'm wondering if I can
just delete this little corrupted copy and download a new
one from somewhere? And if so, where?

thanks,
j :)

Hi Jessica,

Expand a new copy. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand: wordpad.exe
From: X:\I386
To: C:\Program files\Windows NT\Accessories

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. Reboot when finished. Repeat for wordpad.chm and
wordpad.hlp, and place both under %windir%\help.

Hi,

Wordpad's installer and deinstaller is hidden.......ask Bill Gates why.

Anyway, find a file called SYSOC.inf it is located in the Windows\INF
folder. Make a copy of the file for safety, and open it with Notepad.
If it's not there, it really is but hidden.Unhide the inf folder in
options applet in Windows Explorer.

Search for the line::

MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,HIDE,7

and change to:

MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,7

and save and close the inf file. Open the add/remove programs under
Control Panel and select Accessories. Remove Wordpad from there and
reinstall it. You might need your XP CD-ROM.

This hint will also work for Windows 2000. While you're there, you can
remove the word HIDE from all the entries so you can get rid of a few
other programs that are normally hidden.

There you go!!

Cheers!!

Gary
