Word2003 hangs when opening networked files

My firm just upgraded from Win98 desktops & a WinNT4 server to XP Pro
desktops & Server2003SBS. Some (not all) Word files now refuse to open - Word
just hangs, then nothing. I have disabled the Norton AV plug-in, as suggested
in other threads, but this didn't fix it. The entire network has been
virus-scanned. On interesting thing is that all these files will still open
in WordPad (but wiht the obvious limitations that brings). Any ideas what has
caused/is causing this to happen?

Thanks

Hi =?Utf-8?B?SHV3?=,

Try pursuing this in either the office.setup or the word.setup.networking (or a
cross post to both).

The only thing that I'm aware of that could make Word SEEM like it's hanging
when opening documents would be using Word 2003: documents linked to templates
that no longer exist, or are no longer in the same network path location. I
believe MS has released a hotfix for this.
