I just want to download the word program for my computer. Isn't there just a
word download without having to download the office suite? I will only use
Word.

The only sort of download offered by Microsoft itself is a free trial of
Office 2007 (the whole thing); you don't have to install it all.

I don't advise installing this sort of application (which may often request
the discs when you do a repair install or the like) from a download alone.
Even if you download the trial, be sure to acquire the physical discs when
purchasing a permanent license. Users have reported a lot of problems with
buying a license key (without media) online.

Follow-up: You do have a choice of versions at
http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx?re_ms=oo&culture=en-US. The
Home & Student Edition will probably be the smallest download and also the
least expensive to purchase ultimately, but do note that it does not include
Outlook. If you want to have access to an address book in Word, you need to
get a version (such as Standard) that includes Outlook.
