HI,
this sounds stupid, but when I used a recovery cd i did
not get word, excel, access, etc programs back. How does
one get those reinstalled?

Dig out your Microsoft Office CD's and re-install from there. Office is
not part of XP.
 
Hi:
I had the exact same problem as yours after Windows Crash
and Recovery CD.
It was VERY hard for me to get 'Word 2000' back into XP
like before, ... but in my case, when asking something
like 'put 'the original CD' (I just forgot exactly what
it said upon installation), take the CD out and put it
back a second later, assuming that you did have the
original, ... this method worked really well for me.
But, of course, this is 'just a trick.'

Normally, second/recovery version is pretty tough
to 'reinstall', as far as I know.
Also, you could post 'Word' NG here in MS where there are
some experts to help you out more precisely and
accurately.

By using the CD from which they were originally installed; they
would not have been on any OS installation or recovery disk.
