Word XP keeps REPAGINATING a doc and then crashes

I have a doc that was created and modified using Word 2000 + 97
It runs OK on older versions of Word but REPAGINATS when opened on XP
I have tried reseting the compaterbility and any thing else I can think of
but have had no joy

I've had this problem with tables in the header or footer and draw
objects in the h/f.
