Word XP documents open slowly since April Security Patches Loaded

Since loading April Windows 2000 security patches yesterday, Word documents take much much longer to open
There is a long pause on the splash screen followed by a long wait while Anti-virus scan (Norton 2003 fully up-to-date) executes
Is the problem in the patches
If so what can be done?
 
If you haven't already disabled the Office Plug-in in NAV, do so now.

Some (additional) conflict with the Office Plug-in?
