I cannot get Word to open. When clicking the icon, I get the hour glass and it freezes and then I get the low resource error message. I delted Word and reinstalled it, and it still does the same thing.
I have tried opening exisiting Word documents, and the same thing happens. I notice that there is a report of the same problem do you think this is a virus

Using windows explorer Search for ALL of the NORMAL.DOT
files on your computer.
The one with the newset date is the one WORD it is trying
to use. Delete this file. Word will rebuild it the next
time it you start it. I have seen this happen many
times, no idea why the NORMAL.DOT file is so prone to
corruption.

Note if you have made changes to your NORMAL.DOT these
changes will be lost.

A better way to check if normal.dot is the problem is to start Word from the
command line with the /a switch. This starts Word without any templates or
add-ins.

Go to Start > Run and enter: Winword.exe /a

If Word starts OK the problem is in normal.dot or in an add-in. delete or
rename these until you find the culprit.

While you are almost certainly right in your diagnosis of the issue,
normal.dot should be renamed and not deleted. It may still be possible to
use the organizer to copy personalisations from the old version to the new.
