word will not open existing word document

i can start a new word document. but i cannot open an existing document.
the word window opens, but the document does not shoow up in the window.
also none of the tools are fuctioning.
all of the other office programs work fine

help!!!!!!
 
The existing document might be opening in a window off-screen. Try opening
the existing document, then clicking on Window | Arrange All.
