Word will not open as default Message Viewer

I'm using Office 2003. I have set my outlook settings so that MS Word is my
default application for viewing, editing and creating email messages.
BUT - When I view some messages (just double-click a message in my inbox) it
open the general viewer - and not MS Word.

Is there something that can be done?
Does it have anything to do with the message's format?

Hi,
do you use Word 2003?
Check if the option under tools > options > Mail Format "Use Word as Email
Editor" is enabled.
Also Check in your Internet Explorer under
Tools > internetoptions > Programm tab if the HTML Editor is Microsoft Word
if you using HTML Format
 
It is word 2003.
I tried what you suggested, but it didn't help.

Still - When double-clicking some messesges, WORD does not open.
