Hi,
Yesterday I wrote about a person who had Word reading out
her letter she was editing. It was suggested that
Narrator might be turned on. That seemed reasonable but
every time we try to duplicate the effect, instead of
reading the text of the letter, it tells us all about the
toolbars. We had it reading the text using Notepad, as
it says in Help that it can but she was running Word XP.
How do we get it to read the text in Word or is there
some other thing working that reads the text in Word.
Please help,
Joyce

Hello Joyce:

Don't worry, it's quite normal to hear voices from your monitor
when using Word for extended periods. After continued exposure
to Word, luckily, you can become desensitized to the voices, until
like me, you can use Word for upto half a minute before wanting
to go out and strangle someone.
Is there some other thing working that reads the text in Word.

You've a text-to-speech converter on your box. A common text-
to-speech program is bundled with the 'Dragon Naturally Speaking'
voice recognition software. If she said "read document" while
'Dragon Naturally Speaking' is running it will read out her letter.
Please help

How can I not help a lady in distress? This is very important:
If you're using a text-to-speech program only use the male voice
because nothing can simulate a decent girl's voice - a voice
with the timbre of intrique and cigarettes and whiskey.

Hello rh:
Is there anything similar to Excel that would read a document
without purchasing third party tools.

A mechanical voice cannot consecrate the poisoned chalice of love.
A mechanical voice cannot cannot confront you with the dark places,
the recesses of unequivocal obsession. A mechanical voice cannot
express the depths of its agonies even to the very deepest abysses
of the hell of yearning. A mechanical voice is well suited to
a spreadsheet program like Excel.
Are you suggesting that Word-XP does not have a built in text-
to-speech capability.

I know Microsoft's ebook reader does have a text-to-speech engine,
and believe Word-XP has a plug-in that will convert your document
to one that's readable by an ebook reader.

Yours sincerely

any stinkin' computer generated voice.
