Word, Outlook a strange interdependant problem

Hello

I have encountered really nasty and difficult bug with Word and Outlook,
both versions 2003. I have crossposted this to 3 appropriate groups to get
the maximal response in minimal time and annoyiance... ;) I have also tried
to harvest the Net with no success.

To begin with: a little bit of background:

We have just moved to Exchange/Outlook/Office 2003 in our 300+-person
oraganisation. Now EXACTLY one of our users has a very determinate problem:

When she opens Word and starts typing, the Word dies (as it appears, right
after spell checking the text). No text, no problems. Also one can type (if
fast enough) as much of text as he/she wants, BUT when stopping the
spell-checker kicks in and the Word leaves the desktop.

However, when shutting Outlook down, Word functions perfectly (in its limits
;)). Also, one can start Outlook _after Word is running_ both working with
no problems - until closing Word down. When restarting Word, the original
problem presents itself without delay. So this is not a very good option,
especially because the Outlook is started automatically.

We have reinstalled the machine and the problem survived the fresh
installation on another computer. It seems that the problem is not in the
the computer as other users may log in to the very same computer without
this behaviour.

Any hints would be apperciated a lot....

Best regards,

hannu niemi

Delete the user profile and create a new profile from scratch. Also check
the size of the user's Outlook PST. You may need to run a database compact
in Exchange, but it is most unlikely.

BTW, the Word.General newsgroup was closed at least 5 years ago.

Will try ASAP. Thank you very much :) I'll report if this fixes the
problem...

OK, thank you for information. I just looked the newsgroups in my news
server and it obviously listed also dead groups...

word.general is still carried on many news servers, but it has not been
hosted by Microsoft (carried by news://msnews.microsoft.com/) for more than
five years.
