Word opens with cursor in Header area

My Word (2003) opens with the cursor in the Header area. I've tried to
reset this, replace the Normal.dot template, etc., but the problem persists.

All help appreciated.

My guess is that tools > options > view > show white space between pages
should fix it. (or click the tiny space between the page and the top ruler.
This option is easy to accidentally cancel in Word 2003 if you click in the
area between page and ruler.
