Sorry to be so ignorant, but I have a computer with Windows XP and Office
2003. I have Wordpad but I don't think I have Word on my computer even though
apparently Office 2003 comes with Word.
I'm thinking maybe I have it and just can't find it.
I would really like to use it.
Could someone please help me???

Any MS Office comes with MS Word.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE

Right-click WINWORD.EXE -> Send To -> Desktop (create Shortcut)

Thankyou for your reply.
I followed your links and got to Office 11. There were many files, including
One Note (which I hate) but no WINWORD.EXE. The only one beginning with "W"
is WDBIMP.DLL. Most of them are DLLs.
Is it possible I don't have it? In which case, why not do you think?

Check if you have MS Office installed (Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove
Programs).
I you do, search your computer for WINWORD.EXE (Start -> Search -> For
files and Folders)

I am tagging along with Soraya's question because it seems I can not post
questions even though I signed in.

Here is mine:
I got just installed Windows XP with MSOffcie 2003. I am missing the
shortcut bar on the top. I already followed the instructions to include the
feature in the START MENU (going inot Advance Customization of application,
then Office Share Features, then cliscking on the 'X' and running PGM from
computer. Once I am done I should see the option in the Start Menu Folder but
I do not..

By the way, why I can not post questions here????

Soraya, I apologise for using your question to sen mine....

I am having the same problem as Soraya. I even followed "r's" advice. And
yet I found nothing. Now, I know that some stores, like Walmart, Circuit
City and the like have software that I can buy that has Microsoft Word on,
but if my computer is already supposed to have it, why should I buy it?
Please help. Thank you.

Since you didn't make a new post but tacked onto an old thread where the
original posts are no longer available, I don't know what "same problem
as Soraya" means. If you mean that your computer did not come with MS
Word, then that is normal. The XP operating system does not - and has
never - come with an office suite. Pre-built computers from OEMs
(Original Equipment Manufacturers) like Dell, HP, Compaq come with the
operating system installed *and* some preinstalled programs, called a
"bundle". Depending on what you purchased, the "bundle" might include
MS Works or Office, specialized burning software, multimedia programs,
etc. None of that comes with the operating system.

If you purchased an OEM computer and thought you were also purchasing a
bundle including MS Word, contact the company from whom you bought the
computer.

Malke,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I mean that my computer didn't come with MS
Word, or that bundle. After reading your post, I realized my computer came
with a CD burning bundle, instead of MS Office. I suppose if I want MS Word,
that I'll have to go buy something at some store, like Circuit City or a
similar store, right?

Thanks again for your insight.

That's correct. If you must have MS Office, then nothing else will do.
However, if you just want an office suite that can read/write most MS
Office formats, take a look at OpenOffice. You can get it free from
www.openoffice.org.

First, you may have just deleted the shortcut. Click Start > Search and look for
winword.exe -- if you find it, right click and create a shortcut on your desktop.

If there really is no winword.exe on your computer, then Word hasn't been
installed. It would be a little unusual, but perhaps Word was not one of the
Office component applications originally installed (Office includes Word, Excel,
Outlook, Powerpoint, and perhaps additional applications depending on which edition
of Office you have.

See "How to install or repair and reinstall Office 2003 programs and features"

Go to Start which is on the lower left-hand corner of your screen.
Left-click with mouse, which will pop open a window.
Left-click on All Programs -> another window pops open.

Microsoft Office, will show up on your list of programs if it is
installed. Look around for it.

If it is there, move your mouse pointer so that it is
focused on Microsoft Office. This will open up another
popup window, which should list Word, Access, Excel etc.
Slide your mouse pointer over and left-click on the
program you want to use.

If you want to make this more convenient, then right-click
on Word rather than left-clicking. This popsup another window.
Focus your mouse pointer on Send to -> popsup another window
Slide your mouse pointer over and select Desktop (create shortcut)
and then left-click on it. This will put the Word icon on
your desktop where you can start Word by double-clicking
on the Word icon. You can delete this icon if you want by
right-clicking on the icon, which pops up a window,
select delete, and left-click.

You can also check to see if Microsoft Office is installed
by using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) to
navigate to C:\program files and see if MS Office is listed.

Stephen
