Word- New Blank Document number

when i open a new blank document, i USED to get "Document1" at the top of the
page.

NOW the system seems to be incrementing all the time and at present when I
open a new blank document I get "Document 110" at the top of the page. With
each new document it increments by one more.

How can I stop this so that when I open a new blank document I get the usual
"Document1" at the top

What you are seeing indicates that there are temporary files (used by Word)
left on your system; for instructions on how to get rid of them, see
