Word keeps "freezing" or "locking up" why?

I have installed Microsoft Office 2003, but when I am using Word it
continually "freezes" and I have to use the task manager to continue. As a
result I lose all my work! Is anyone else expereincing the same problem?

This is obviously not normal behaviour - work through the suggestions at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm paying particular
attention to add-ins
and with Word closed, check for orphan files -
