Word hangs when going to Save As

In Word and Excel 2003 when I go to Save As and click the drop down arrow to
select a location to save, my PC hangs for a little over a minute.

I tried detect and repair. It has all the updates. I even removed and
reinstalled it. Tried in Safe Mode and still the same.

Does your Tools > Options > file locations point to network shares?
That slows you right down.

No my file location is ok, all local.

I also renamed normal.dot but still same thing. Any other ideas?
