Word for me but not the others

There are three users on my computer but Word is only available on my user
account. Each user is set up as a computer administrator.

What do I have to do so that the other users can have access to Word without
having to go into my user account?

That seems kinda unusual. Word should work for whoever uses your
machine, but it is possible that the shortcuts to start the program are
only showing up in your profile. Try this:

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Start Menu\Programs

Do you see a shortcut for Word there? If so, cut and paste it into:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

Now everyone should be able to use it. If you don't see a Word shortcut
anywhere, find out where Word is installed. For Office XP, it is found at:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Winword.exe

Right click on that executable and Send To > Desktop. Then take the
shortcut you just created on your destop and drop it in the Start Menu
for all users as detailed above.

See if that helps.

Hey Thomas,

I looked for the shortcut for Word in C:\documents and settings\<my user
name>\start menu\programs but it was not there.

So I went to your second suggestion of C:\program files\microsoft
office\office11\winword.exe and took the shortcut for Word and dropped it in
the start menu. Now the shortcut for word is showing on my desktop as well
as in my start menu.

It is still not showing on the start menu for any of the other users.

Howdy Mozzie,

Did you put the shortcut in the "All users" Start Menu directory or just
in your own? Unless something strange is happening, shortcuts that
appear in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

Should show up for everyone. I take it your are using Win 2000 or XP. If
you want to, you can manually add the shortcut to the directories for
each of your users, but that is somewhat inelegant. Let me know if that
works.

Thanks Thomas,

Yes I have Win XP. I had to put Winword.exe into shared documents and work
from there. I know that is not what you said to do but your instructions
were very clear and I was able to feel my way around after reading what you
wrote.
