Word documents

When attempting to copy and paste a word in documents
highlighting fails. I logged in as a different user and
the same thing happens.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by "highlighting fails"?
If you mean that you can't paste copied text over selected text, then go to
Tools | Options | Edit and make sure that "Typing replaces selection" is
checked.
