I've changed the default language in Word to English (Canada) however, no
matter what I do I can't seem to eliminate English (US) from the spellcheck.
I have used the Language Settings Tool, added Canada and removed US, however
the language toolbar still shows US english as acceptable.

For instance, Word does not recognize "color" as a spelling error. It should
however correct me to write "colour". Why can't I make it do this? Have I
overlooked a simple step? Thanks for your help

Thank you, that was a helpful site because It showed me how to change my
computer settings. However, my major issue still persists. No matter what I
do, English (US) still has the ABC checkmark beside it and it still does not
recognize "color" as a spelling mistake. So it still, for some reason, is
recognizing English (US) as acceptable. For instance, in a normal word
document, with the language toolbar added, the pull-down menu has both canada
english and us english with the abc checks and they are both above (what I
assume) indicates default settings. I hope this doesn't sound really
confusing.

Ctrl+A to select your entire document and select your preferred flavor of
English. Clear the check box for "Detect language automatically."
