Start with the technique at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/SaveViewAndZoom.htm. If that doesn't work
(and in Word 2003 it likely won't, at least not all the time), you'll need a
macro, which Graham will be along later to provide.

So where's Graham? :-)

The doc/link that was posted below doesn't seem to resolve this in 2003, as
you predicted.

I'd like to know how to resolve this as well, as I have a couple of end
users who are have just been upgraded to 2003 adn are experiencing the same
problem.

New (blank) docs open w/ the correct default view, but older ones will not.

Thanks!

FWIW, Graham's macro has been posted here within the past 24 hours.

He was sleeping :)

You can control the zoom with auto macros in normal.dot. The following will
set it to 100% zoom regardless of what the document thinks it should be.
Change the 100 to any preferred zoom level. I have included also some of the
other regular problem fixes, but you can remove the extra lines if required.
If you want normal rather than print layout view swap the lines where
indicated.

See http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm

Sub AutoNew()
ActiveWindow.ActivePane.DisplayRulers = True
ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.ShowAll = False
ActiveWindow.DisplayHorizontalScrollBar = True
ActiveWindow.DisplayVerticalScrollBar = True With ActiveWindow.View
'**********************
.Type = wdPrintView
'.Type = wdNormalView
'**********************
.Zoom.Percentage = 100
.DisplayPageBoundaries = True
End With
End Sub

Sub AutoOpen()
ActiveWindow.Caption = ActiveDocument.FullName
ActiveWindow.ActivePane.DisplayRulers = True
ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.ShowAll = False
ActiveWindow.DisplayHorizontalScrollBar = True
ActiveWindow.DisplayVerticalScrollBar = True With ActiveWindow.View

'**********************
.Type = wdPrintView
'.Type = wdNormalView
'**********************
.Zoom.Percentage = 100
.DisplayPageBoundaries = True
End With
End Sub
