word default settings(SHOW/HIDE)

How can I set up word so that when I open a document the Show/Hide tool is
not selected. I don't know how it happened, but it shows up every time I
open word. I know how to disable it once I'm in but I'd like to be able to
start typing without that paragraph marker every time.
