We have two computers running with Word 2002. And one computer running with
Word 2003. Some documents originally created in Word 2002 (that involve
styles / formatting & tables) open in Word 2003 but then when I try to do any
basic editing of the document e.g. copy / pasting within the document or from
other documents. Word 2003 crashes - on sending an error message to microsoft
- no suggestions / help is given as to why problem occurs / possible
solutions. I have read through the discussion group site and seen similar
problem where suggestion was to deselect tools/options/edit/keep track of
formatting box but this does not help. Can anyone help - this is so
frustrating!!!!

Hi Chris,

Sounds to me as if the problematic documents might be damaged. You could try if it helps when you save them in HTML or RTF format, close, and reopen them before working on them. Or try if it happens with a clean Word installation -- starting Word from Windows > Start > Run: winword.exe /a

If you want, you can mail me a problematic doc to my private mail account, and I'll look if they contain some feature that causes the incompatibility. Can't promise (fast) results, though...

Klaus

Thank you for your reply. I will try what you have suggested. In the
meantime how do I send you an example of a problematic document (what is your
e-mail address). The thing is that the documents are working fine in Word
2002 and don't carsh / cause any problems - only when worked on in Word 2003.

You should see my mail addy if you click on my name in the web interface (up above the message).

Best mention my name in the title, then it's less likely to end up in the spam filter.
