Word Closes when I close a document - Word 2003

I've read several other questions just like this but none of them seem to
solve the problem. When I open a document then close it, it also closes the
program and I have to reopen Word to continue working. I do not click on the
x to close my documents. I use the close document Icon or I go File/Close,
Ctrl-W also closes the program. It does not happen all the time only every
once in a while. Has anyone actually solved this problem? It's real
annoying.

In the Customize Keyboard dialog box, make sure that Ctrl+W is associated
with the DocClose command.

The Ctrl+W works properly when the program is working properly. It's only
when the program is not working properly that no matter how I close the
document the program itself closes. I work in Word all day long, opening and
closing documents and it's a real problem to have to restart the "program"
everytime I close a document.

If Ctrl+W / Ctrl+F4 are closing the application then you need to identify
the fault condition that is causing that to occur. See

relation to the normal template, add-ins and the registry Data key.
