On an AMD Athalon XP system running Windows XP, I upgraded Office 2002 to Office 2003. Now, 'Word' can't open existing (or new) documents, (.doc .txt .csv...), I get the message "Word cannot open this document template. (C:\Program Files\...\PDFMaker.dot)." Also, when I exit Word, I am told that "Normal.dot already exists, overwrite?" This system has always run fine. The Office upgrade suggested I upgrage Adobe Acrobat. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat 5, rebooted, and installed Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro. Adobe 6 works fine. Since Word mentioned the Adobe 'PDFMaker.dot' file, I uninstalled Adobe 6, rebooted, and re-installed it again. Adobe still works fine. I think my problem may be solved within the 'Tools, Options, File Locations' settings. If you have seen this before - I could use some help -Thanks.

Locate the file PDFMaker.dot on your computer. It is in your Word startup
folder or in your Office startup folder. Move it to a different folder and
see if that helps.

PDFMaker.dot is the add-in for Acrobat and should be in the Office Startup
folder - which for Word 2002 and 3 are different locations. The correct
location for 2003 is (by default) - C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP.

Whether you use Acrobat 5 or 6, you need to install the latest upgrade to
work with Office 2003.

Set Word to trust all installed templates and add-ins.
