Word attachments will not open.

When I try to open any word attachement. Outlook open a new email and attaches the word document. ( but does not open the document). If I save the file to my hard drive and try to open the file outlook opens a new email and attaches the word document. This only happen with word files that are emailed to me.

I have XP and Office 2003
 
Do you have any add-ins installed that automate your mail process (I am talking about 3rd party programs)?
 
No, I do not have any addins
