word attachments in sent email fail to open

Microsoft word documents sent as attachments in my emails do not open in
Word. They attempt to open using Adobe Photoshop.
 
Outlook is not responsible for which application is being used to open
attachments; they are always opened with the default configured handler. I
suggest you verify that that is set to Word.

Instructions depend on your version of Windows. Check Control Panel-> Folder
Options or Default Programs
