I set up a new PC for a user in our company and the
option under TOOLS/OPTIONS/MailFormat to use Word as the
e-mail editor is not there. Another user has contacted
us (ISS) to relate the same problem. Is there a fix?

What version of Outlook? What version of Word?

P.S. Can I get some of your fee on this problem? :-)

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Confirmed my hunch. My understanding is that one needs the same
"family" of Word and Outlook together (as in Office) to work like you
expect. Word 97 part of Office 97, and Outlook 2000 part of Office 2000.

Client has to change something to make this work ... upgrade Word,
downgrade Outlook (Outlook 97 not very good/secure, though), move to
latest Office 2003, or something.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

It could be that you have a version of Outlook that does not work with a
previous version of Word. For example Outlook 2003 will only work with Word
2003, if Word 2002 is on the machine the option to use Word as the e-mail
editor will not be available.

I hope this information is helpful.

That sounds like a very probable reason - I will check
the versions of each on the users machine.
Thank you!

Another hunch (which I can't check since I don' thave the software
anymore), Office 97 and Outlook 97 (or 98) doens't support Word as it's
editor. Check out this spec before offering this to your customer.
Don't want to create false expectations.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I don't think this is accurate. I'll have to check when I get home, but I
believe it does. ALso Outlook 2000 supports both Word 2000 and Word from
Office 97 (Word 7? 8?) as editor.
