Word adds 5000 pages

When working on a document I will get 5000+ pages if I
cut and paste an image or if an image gets bumped down to
the next page.

sounds like the document structure may be damaged. Here's
something to try:

Select all the text EXCEPT for the last paragraph mark.
Copy. Paste into a new document. Does the problem go away in
the new document?
