Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has seen a similar problem and
would have some insight into what could cause it.

We are using Word 97 with Windows 2000. There is one user
who on several occasions has made changes to a document
(not always the same documnet), saved it and closed. The
next time she access the document her changes are not
there. She swears that she has saved and because it has
happened on more than one document we are wondering if
there is something in her set up that would cause this.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Marg,

I'm afraid I probably won't be able to help with what's
causing it, but I do know it does happen.

The most common, and "tangible" reason would be if someone
opens an attachment directly from an email, then never uses
"Save As" to save it explicitly to a folder location. If
they just work and "save", the changes are all lost when the
document is closed; they were written to a "temp" file, and
that will be deleted. My husband has done this on numerous
occasions :-)

I have also heard of problems where the user does everything
correctly, but the *file* is lost. (Not just the changes,
but the entire file.) Not sure what the cause is, here, but
I think it's an OS/permissions problem.

And a damaged document could, conceivably, display this kind
of behavior. But then it would happen to more than just the
one person.
