WORD 97 Professional

I need help to get WORD 97 back to working. I have uninstalled and installed several times. I have many files in WORD that I need to use, and many peopel send me atachments in WORD. I can't open them. I can't get into WORD, but I can get into everything else in Office 97!!! Is there a patch or upgrade that I can use?
 
It would help if you provided at least some vague indication of what goes
wrong...
