The new word 2007 interface is driving me crazy, can someone please tell me
how to go back to word 2003 interface.

I read Microsoft's reason for changing the interface, apparently there are
1500 commands in Microsoft and people could'nt find them. The person who want
to know 1500 commands probably has no life!

I use three functions open-save- print! and close maybe!

Can someone please post a response to my dilemma!

Thanks

If you really only use "open-save- print! and close maybe!", just customize
the Quick Access toolbar (between the Microsoft Office button and the title
bar at the top of the screen), which already contains a Save button:
Click Customize Quick Access Toolbar (dash on top of a downward pointing
triangle) on the right end of the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) to display the
Quick Access Toolbar Customize menu; click Open to add it to the QAT; do the
same for Quick Print. If you really do not use Undo and Redo, you can remove
them from the QAT in this fashion.

The easiest way to close a document is to double-click the Microsoft Office
button (if it's the only document open, it will close Word as well); you can
also easily add it to the QAT.

If you really want to return to the Word 2003 interface, go to Patrick
Schmid's website and download a free, starter version of his extraordinarily
well-designed Ribbon Customizer that will add a Classic tab to the Ribbon
http://pschmid.net/office2007/ribboncustomizer/starter.php. Buy the
professional version for $29.99 and you can easily customize the Ribbon to
your heart's content.

....and if you really only use open, save, and print... why on earth use Word
at all? WordPad and Notepad are a lot simpler, come with Windows, are use a
lot less memory... and are essentially free. :-)

I have to agree with the original post.

Let me remove the horrible ribbon! At least give me the choice to revert to
an interface I've known inside out for more than a decade. It wasn't broken -
why did it need to be 'fixed'?.

Market research may show that it's more intuitive to new users, but we were
all new users once and hey, you know what - we managed just fine. If we
weren't using all the commands, that's because we didn't need them all.

In my opinion, Word was pretty much at its best in Word 6, before all the
other 'web' stuff, paperclip, etc. was added to bloat it up. I used it
in-depth professionally in a translation company for all manner of tasks,
from writing RTF Help source files to comparing documents, etc.

Many of us 'old users' love the old interface. I am not a Microsoft basher,
but not letting those of us who are familiar with Word revert to our old
familiar interface has to the worst decision since the days of the paperclip!

If Microsoft were wise, they would release a 'Word Lite' which contains the
features of Word 6 in a nice, modern, interface.

Clearly, many are unhappy with the new interface, and we are not going to go
away, so give us the choice or lose customers. I don't want to buy a third
party tool to remove the ribbin (they are available), so it looks like I will
have to move to Open Office.

Like you won't have to adapt to a different user interface in OpenOffice.

Already tried Open Office before. It's more intuitive to those of us who
don't need 'Toy'R'Us' interfaces to be productive.

Word 2007 has got to be about the worst office product Microsoft's
mousedriven minds ever came up with. After 2 weeks of using it - I went back
to 2003 - and was able to get my work DONE! And a LOT faster!

The "Ribbon Bar" was created for the same reason the Windows GUI interface
was created - sheer laziness. If you have a picture to click on - you don't
have to learn how to use the keyboard commands - even though it is a thousand
times faster to do so.

If you have a 2003 office installation CD - go to Control Panel - add/remove
programs/find office 2007 - and remove/uninstall it. Then reinstall 2003. You
may have to reactivate by phone.

Good luck!

Hi Yesfan
Let me remove the horrible ribbon! At least give me the choice to revert to
an interface I've known inside out for more than a decade. It wasn't broken -
why did it need to be 'fixed'?.

because a very high percentage of feature requests for Word were things
that the product already could do. But people didn't discover the
necessary commands!

MSFT had to weigh the steep learning curve for existing power users
against the new and supposedly better discoverability for the new/casual
users.

Market research may show that it's more intuitive to new users, but we were
all new users once and hey, you know what - we managed just fine. If we
weren't using all the commands, that's because we didn't need them all.

See above: not everybody found commands 4 or 5+ layers deep in the old
interface. I really do think that the old had to go. I'm can't say I
like all the changes (certainly not the lack of adaptability for the
mere mortal user).

To be fair: nobody is forced to use 2007 if he doesn't like it: you can
sit back and enjoy 2003 for as long as you like.

I also hate word 2007. Where can I find 2003????? This new program is
horribly complicated.

Not really.

After wasting weeks fighting with Word 2007, I installed OpenOffice and
within minutes was back in business. That's because open office is so
intuitive and easy to understand. Hint, Hint, Microsoft.

I don't mind new software or even new interfaces...

.........as long as it makes sense to the user!

Some of us are being forced to use the Office 2007 suite by our IT
departments because it's supposedly more "secure". Our department has
actually set-up a new charge number specifically for (lost) time after
migrating from 2003. Sad but true.
