Word 2007 instability on Vista but not XP

John

I purchased a new Sony Vaio laptop last April. I am on the verge of getting
out the backup dvds I created when I first bought it and starting over again.
It came with a trial version of Office 2007 which I tried. It operated just
fine so I purchased the small business version and installed that. It wasn't
long after that I noticed when opening a word doc or starting a new one that
the rotating busy icon keeps running while word is open. I can still type,
edit, backspace and use word like normal except this causes a good amount of
lag time on everything. This problem also causes the taskbar (which I auto
hide) to flash at the bottom. All the other Office products in the suite
work fine.

I had heard about Vista causing problems with programs so I loaded Office
2007 on my desktop running XP and I have no problems. All updates to Vista
and Office have been installed. Office was uninstalled and re-installed on
the Vista system with the exact same problem still showing up. I have tried
to Google this problem and not any luck finding a solution.

A follow note. After word is closed the task bar still flashs until I bring
it up and then it is stable. When I move the cursor away it starts flashing
again. It does this until I re-start the computer.

You should post your question in one of the Office newsgroups. The experts
there can answer your questions more precisely. FWIW, I have Office 2007 on
my Vista machine with no issues such as you are reporting.

So you discovered that Vista is not fit for primetime? Thanks for beta
testing Microsoft's latest and greatest OS. It is indeed appreciated. We
just hope that you don't get too frustrated and bear with us. Eventually
we'll figure out how to get one of our applications working with our
operating system. Until then, may we suggest you try Open Office.
Apparently that works fine (well as fine as things can work) in Vista.

What Spam? Suggesting Open Office isn't spam, doofus. Spam, be
definition, implies financial gain and suggesting Ubuntu, Open Office,
Avast, AVG or any other respectable free product is not spam because
there's no financial gain. Many Microsoft MVPs recommend Open Office.

By the way, it's The United States *of* America, not The United States
*is* America. America consists of three parts: North, Central and South
America. Now, I concede many uneducated fools like you refer to the USA
as "America" but that doesn't make it so.

Sure it is duffus. It's advertising/promoting products other than from MS.

Not true. Advertising/promoting products other than from MS is not
allowed, period!

Many Microsoft MVPs recommend Open Office.

They do?

WOW! You're just now realizing that fact? You're really much dumber than
any of us originally thought!

Now, I concede many uneducated fools like you refer to the USA

hehehe...does being from mexico make you that stupid?
The United States of America is America. It is located in North America,
sometimes referred to as part of the "The Americas".

In an unmoderated newsgroup? I don't think so, doofus.

They do?

Yep and they recommend Avast, AVG, Spybot, AdAware, Comodo firewall,
Spywareblaster, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash and Spywareguard (among
others), none of which are Microsoft programs. Oops.

I've known this since before you were born.

I'm not from Mexico. Oops. Oh, and educated people (not you) know that
"Mexico" is capitalized.

Malke,

I did post this on the Office discussion group. Here is an a factor that
makes me think it is my Vista profile. I only created one profile on initial
start up. I just created an additional user and started Word 2007 in that
and did not have the problems. Would this still be an Office issue or a
Vista issue?

Good for you!
No, you don't care.

Nobody cares...well you maybe but you're a 'nobody'. Same difference.
