Word 2007 has slowed to a crawl

I purchased a new system with Vista home/student pre-loaded. I then purchased
and loaded Office 2007 - and it has worked fine for 18 months. Recently
however, Word 2007 has slowed to the point where I'm nearing insanity. It
shows typed text, but it's delayed by about 10 keystrokes, and the little
blue circle thing seems always to be spinning around...

I can USE most software, but I don't know where to begin with
trouble-shooting or fixing problems. Please Help!

Have you ever done Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragment to get your hard
drive working more efficiently? Did this happen suddenly, or
gradually? Do you know that you don't have a virus/malware?

I have run both of those programs periodically, but not as often as I
thought. When I just started the Disk Defragment, it said I hadn't run it
since April. But to answer your other question, it seemed to happen rather
suddenly. I use Norton 360 which runs at least weekly at night (or maybe
daily - I can't remember).

The problem is more likely to be over enthusiastic virus checking from
Norton. Turn off its office plug-in option. It doesn't do anything useful.
