Word 2003 & Word 2002 do not allow me to type. All documents are affected new and old. The read only check box is not checked. The keyboard works in all other applications. However I cannot type on word in any format including the Help assistant. I've ran various anti virus software and any issues have been removed. I am at my wits end. As you can see I bought a new Office package hoping ths would resolve the problem. I have also went through all the troubleshooting files and still no joy. Please help!

I really think that the root-cause is the damage by those viruses. Some
are known to attack specific applications. Something still lingers.
Since at wits end... are you in a position to really remove these
nefarious programs, or perhaps you have to rebuild the entire machine?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

What happens if you open the Run command on the Start menu and use:
winword.exe /a
?

Rob, Thanks for your reply
Tried the run from the start menu

Word eventually launched after saying "Word experienced an error trying to open the file." The file was still read only.

Jay, Thanks for your reply

I acn confirm that Word 2003 is activated and looks cool! But sadly unable to type!

Is the problem a particular file, or Word in general? From the first
posting, I thought it was Word in general. Now it appears to be a
particular file? Maybe the file is indeed read only? Did you check
(right mouse click, properties, in Explorer).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Are you asking if Read only attribute on the file is checked, or is it
not? I can't see your computer.

If you open a blank new file, before saving it (e.g. not yet a file),
can you write text into it? Can you navigate menus?

Is it the files the problem, or Word? Please clarify.

Given you had virus problems ... I still think root cause is vestiges of
that infestation. Something *causes* computer problems. The vast
majority of the time it's either a virus or other nefarious cause, or
user fiddling or misunderstanding. There are exceptions, of course, but
we need to rule out these first.

Thanks again for your reply and interest. All files including new documents are the same, unable to type
I can navigate the menu's etc.. but I can't type in word. However the keyobard etc is fine in any other discipline

And if not activation, I still think, as I said earlier, that your
machine is hosed due to previous computer virus which did who-knows-what.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
